Papette

PROGRESS UPDATE

South of Leoganne, along the coast, lies the Wesleyan church at Papette. This church, which was severly damaged in the quake has requested a $50,000 cash settlement from Global Partners rather than receive one of the pole structures GP teams are constructing. Additionally, Compassion International has committed to rebuild the school on this site.

RECOMMENDATIONS/NOTES

There are no buildings on the property that can be salvaged.

The property drains to the west (right as you are facing the lot). There are definite drainage concerns for the neighboring property to the west. The rubble from the damaged buildings could be used to grade the property for better drainage.

The fifth building shown in the diagram of the property was not measured. It is considered a total loss and was rated as a five.

The church has already built a temporary structure in the front patio for worship.

Pastor Etienne Wilson

INTERVIEW OF PASTOR ETIENNE WILSON

Pastor Etienne has been at the Papette Church for four years. The congregation averages 500 adults and 500 children. Some of the ministries the church offers are preaching, education, and Wednesday services. This was a church plant by Pastor Etienne’s father-in-law, Pastor Thebaud Louihomme. There were 13 decisions for Christ in 2009. One person from the congregation was killed as a result of the earthquake. Pastor Etienne’s vision for the future is to rebuild the church and school buildings.
