Wesleyan Ministry Centers are exactly that, places of blessing to capable ministry, medical and construction teams, busy national leaders, pastors, health workers and teachers thirsty for added knowledge.
Currently the Wesleyan Mission and Church operate or affiliate with 4 Ministry Centers; Kay Eli in Port-au-Prince operated by the Gilles family, The Ortlip Center on the mainland across the channel from La Gonave, the Ministry Center on La Gonave and the Fauche Guesthouse in the North of Haiti.
Guesthouses/Ministry Centers are an important strategic part of the long-range strategy of the Wesleyan Church and Mission in Haiti. Each center is an oasis for short-term medical, ministry and construction teams providing safe drinking water, nutritious meals and protection from mosquito born disease. These centers are also sites for on-going training of pastors, community health workers and hospital personnel. These locations also provide housing for leaders attending church and district events as well as opportunities for partner organizations to host similar activities.
Ministry Centers provide employment and generate modest profit, which is distributed to the mission, church and hospitals.
The Guesthouse on the island of La Gonave has existed for more than forty years as an 18 bed facility which housed teams ministering in the Wesleyan hospital and to the people of La Gonave, through the years becoming a well-worn building no longer adequate and comfortable for visitors. In 2012, under the capable direction of Greg Edmonds, construction began on a new 42 bed facility. In addition to mission resources, several friends and partner organizations, have contributed resources to the project. The first wing of four bedrooms and baths is basically finished and most of the kitchen equipment has arrived, tile flooring is down in the first wing, kitchen and dining/conference area. In August a specially recruited team will work alongside Haitian craftsmen to finish the Center in time to accommodate visitors attending the Hospital dedication scheduled for the last weekend in September 2013.
We still need some help to do the last finish work and to equip the Center. Please consider the purchase of one or more of the following items.
- Kitchen miscellaneous utensils, bake ware, etc. - $1500
- Tableware for 50 - $600
- Tables and chairs for dining room $3500 chair- $40 table $100
- Public Restrooms (men’s & women’s) floor tile $300 toilets sinks $500
- Finish the last 5 bedrooms, floor tile, beds mattresses, toilet sinks $2000 each
The ministry center, when complete, will have beds for 42 people, a large dining/conference room, a commercial kitchen for food preparation, a new office for the mission and will become a base camp/ training facility for teams to retreat to following their daily ministry for many years to come.
